Yellow tea is the tea of emperors. It’s sweet, has a delicate flavor, and is ripe with fresh aromas. It’s the world’s rarest and least understood tea, but the health benefits of yellow tea are just as powerful as those of other tea types, if not more so in some cases.

Though the health benefits of yellow tea are just beginning to be explored, we can be confident that it shares a variety of benefits with green tea. The primary difference between the two types is that yellow tea processing features an additional stage where the leaves are slowly steamed and covered with a wet cloth.

This eliminates the grassy flavor of green tea and allows the leaves to absorb its own aromas, producing yellow tea.
We’ve researched the health advantages of green and yellow tea and found a myriad of sources and studies to back the claims made in this article, but we’re not licensed health professionals. If you have a specific concern, we recommend you consult your regular doctor.

I’m thrilled to share these 5 ways yellow tea promotes healthy living with you. Let’s dive in.

1

The Power Of Antioxidants

Oxidation is a naturally occurring process that happens all around us. When iron rusts, apples brown, or coffee beans stale, oxidation has played its cruel game. Essentially, it occurs when a molecule steals an electron from another molecule, causing disruption and imbalance. Over time, this leads to food spoiling, materials falling apart, and our bodies decaying.

One type of oxidizing molecule is the free radical. This molecule triggers chain events as electrons are passed around over and over again, resulting in a variety of long-term health complications.

Yellow tea, as well as all the other pure tea types, features a high concentration of antioxidants called polyphenols. These polyphenols offer extra electrons to free radicals, preventing oxidative damage and stopping it when it occurs. A few of the health benefits below are possible because of the antioxidants, but other benefits we won’t get into here, such as skin and DNA health, are also promoted by polyphenols.

Prevents And
Slows Cancer
Development

In Japan, green and yellow teas are known to be powerful companions to cancer treatments, offering a slew of natural benefits for cancer patients and people who are at risk of developing cancer. It’s important to know that yell tea does not take the place of standard cancer treatment, but compliments it.

The key anti-cancer component is epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which begins to make noticeable differences when you drink 15 to 20oz of green or yellow tea per day. It is also possible to acquire an effective amount of EGCG by intaking 2.5g of green tea extract, but you miss out on the delicious crisp and fresh flavors of yellow tea that way.

3

Encourages
Oral Health

Yellow tea polyphenols protect against dental bacteria quite well. Green tea has even been suggested to be able to ward off the influenza virus thanks to the antiviral properties of polyphenols (yellow tea is certainly capable of this as well).

Oral oxidation, inflammation from cavities and smoking, and the risk of oral cancer are all reduced with yellow tea.

4

Improves
And Preserves
Cardiovascular
Health

There is an undeniable correlation between yellow and green tea consumption and cardiovascular health. Thanks to, yet again, EGCG and polyphenols, the lining of blood and lymphatic vessels are able to maintain their strength and structure, reducing the risk of heart disease later in life. Once again, damaging free radicals lose to the health benefits of yellow tea.

The risk of Atherosclerotic lesions is also reduced, thanks to the the anti-inflammatory properties of yellow tea’s antioxidants. This keeps the vascular walls the appropriate size and keeps everything flowing naturally.

5

Promotes
Effective
Cognitive
Function

Yellow tea has a high amount of L-Theanine, a protein known to calm the mind and sooth the nerves. When consumed in the form of yellow tea, L-Theanine can reduce stress and anxiety, improve auditory and visual focus, and simply put you in a good mood.

When theanine and caffeine are combined, they bring you to a focused, but calm state of mind.
